TNA campaign under Tamil diaspora influence - Media Minister
by P. Krishnaswamy
The TNA’s ongoing campaign against the so-called militarisation and
‘land grabbing’ is a pro-LTTE campaign orchestrated under the influence
of the Tamil diaspora because it was a sensitive issue at the last UNHRC
Geneva sessions, Media and Information Minister and Cabinet spokesman
Keheliya Rambukwella told the Sunday Observer. Their campaigns are due
to pressure from the diaspora community and not due to a just cause, he
said. According to information, the diaspora has also instructed the TNA
leaders to attend the next UNHRC sessions scheduled for September 20,
2012, he said.
The Government has no intention of grabbing any land of its citizens,
but any crown or unowned lands may have been earmarked for security
installations. The Government cannot compromise on issues of national
and security interests, he said.
It has been found that many of the Northern people who had abandoned
their lands for nearly three decades on their return after the
restoration of peace, had voluntarily extended the boundaries of their
lands. Anybody can seek legal remedy if their lands were forcibly taken
over or they have been harassed, instead of supporting TNA campaigns
intended at earning the sympathy of the international community.
