SLMC dissociates itself from TNA campaign

Refuting reports in certain sections of the media that the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leadership has decided to join the TNA campaign against the “acquisition of lands in Tamil areas”, party chairman and Deputy Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Basheer Segu Dawood said that no such decision had been taken.

The party High Command (HC) takes decisions on such crucial issues and the matter never came up before the HC for discussion, he said.

A Tamil-language daily had reported that the SLMC leadership has decided to join the ongoing TNA campaign against the acquisition of lands of the Muslim community in the Eastern province since there was no response to their representations to the Government on the issue.

Muslims of the Eastern province have land problems and the SLMC is confident of resolving such issues with the Government, Dawood said.
