Kingswood scrape through to victory

Kingswood College scraped through to a 16 points (1 goal, 2
penalties, 1 drop goal) to 10 (1 goal, 1 penalty) win over Science
College in their schools Singer Shield Under-20 'A' Division Rugby
Tournament match played at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy yesterday. At
half time Kingswood College led 6-0.
The match was delayed by five minutes as one of the Science College
players was injured at the far end of the grounds and the stretcher from
the Ambulance had to be brought to carry off the player. The Ambulance
was parked at the entrance to the stadium.
The match started with the Kignswoodians took an early lead through a
35 metre penalty put over by centre Asela Wijesinghe.
Soon afterwards full back Duminda Bandara executed a 30 metre drop
goal for the Kingswoodians to increase heir score to 6-0 and with that
the side changed ends.
Soon after resumption Kignswoodians struck winger Ravindu Kumara who
booted the loose ball and sprinted nearly 40 metres to score under the
post and Asela Wijesinghe added the extra points.
Science College made their first scoring effort when full back
Chathura Gomez converted a 35 metre penalty.
Shortly afterwards two players were seen exchanging blows at the
referee issued a general warning to both sides.
In the 34th minute of play Science College three-quarter were spotted
off side and Asela Bandara converted a penalty in from for Kignswood to
lead 16-3.
With the match drifting into injury time, a penalty awarded to
Science College was kicked ahead end from the ensuring maul flanker
Kanchana Perera score near the post and Chathura Gomez added the extra
