Rajans win segment 'B' Schools Singer Shield

RUGBY: Dharmaraja College, Kandy, won the Segment 'B' of the Schools Singer Shield division one schools under 20 rugby tournament when they scored a convincing 35 points (3 goals, 1 try, 3 penalties) 7 (1 goal) win over Wesley College in the final game of the league championship played at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy on Friday. At 'lemons' the Rajans led 19-7. The game started off well with the Rajans drawing first blood through by flanker Malinda Herath with fullback Tilina Wijesinghe adding the extra points.

Wesley College rose up to the occasion to equalise through a push over try by prop forward Gayan Udara and scrum half Rahula de Silva goalled and the scores were level at 7 all set the stage for a close game.

But that: was never to be as the Rajans piled on the points during the balance period of play through tries scored by winger Lochana Fernando (2) and centre Miyuru Hewawasam (1) and fullback Tilina Wijesinghe goalled two more tries and also fired three penalties from varying angles to give the Rajans a handsome victory which gave the league title and also a promotion to the top division of the schools rugby tournament.
