Lankan cooks to work on Miami Carnival Cruise
"Sri Lankan youth can join the crew of the prestigious Carnival
Cruise Liner of Miami, USA, after training," said Maulad Trans Lanka
(MTL) Managing Director Dhammika Ong.
MTL, the exclusive rights holder to supply shipping crew to Carnival
Cruise Lines have sent two batches since February this year.
"Right now we recruit only for positions such as cooks, trainee
cooks, commis, demi chef de partie, chef de partie, junior sous chef for
24 Carnival ships.
The first batch of 55 cooks joined the Carnival Cruise vessels last
July. The second batch of cooks is scheduled to leave for the USA to
join the vessels next October," the Managing Director said.
She said that they recruit only qualified personnel for the cook's
position. Theyshould have followed a formal training course in cookery
at a recognised hotel school followed by a minimum of one year's
training at a star class hotel.
However, those who do not have work experience will be given an
opportunity to work on board as trainees and they would be promoted
after successful completion of training, the Managing Director said.
