Jayawardene and Sangakkara keep Sri Lanka on course

A fantastic Captain’s knock of 65 by Mahela Jayawardene who was involved in a second wicket stand of 108 with Kumar Sangakkara 39 helped Sri Lanka stay on course for a semi-final berth and a tilt at the Twenty20 title when they beat West Indies by 9 wickets at Pallekele today.

Luke Wright pilots England to victory

England stayed afloat in the World Cup Twenty20 by beating New Zealand by 6 wickets at the Pallekele Stadium, yesterday. In reply to New Zealand’s 148 for 6 in 20 England made 149 for 4 in 18.5 overs. The reigning champions victory was made possible by a blistering innings of 76 in 43 balls from Luke Wright.

Army SC failed to live up to expectations as they were soundly beaten by the Up-Country Lions by 33 points (2 goals, 2 tries and 3 penalties) to 10 (a goal and a penalty) in their Dialog Clifford Club rugby quarter-final played at Havelock Park yesterday.
