Cattle slaughter banned
The unanimous decision of the Kandy Municipal Council to ban cattle
slaughter within the city limits was commendable said Kandy Pushpadana
Society Secretary Walter Ranasinghe. In the Kandy YMBA, Sri Kalyanodaya
Society and Vaishaka Society too expressed their gratitude to the Kandy
MC.
P.C. Imbulana passes away
Former Minister of Labour Prema Chandra Imbulana passed away on
Friday at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. He first entered
Parliament in July 1960.
He served as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture from 1965-70,
and Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction from 1977-1983 and
Minister of Labour from 1984-1988.
Thereafter, he served as the Governor of Uva Province from 1988-1992.
The funeral will take place tomorrow in Ruwanwella, his home town.
Thyroid cancer patient appeals for help
K. Leela Kanthi (43) of No. 2/35A, Miriswatte, Yagodamulla, Kotugoda
has been diagnosed with cancer of thyroid and has been recommended to
undergo 3.7 GBq of Radioactive Iodine Treatment at Ceylinco Healthcare
Centre by Senior Consultant Oncologist Dr. Sarath Abeykoon, which will
cost around Rs. 115,450.
She must also take follow-up treatment with tests and treatments
before and after radioactive treatment. Her husband who is not in a
position to raise the money, appeals for help. Contributions may be made
