7.5 magnitude quake hits off Alaska
WASHINGTON, Jan 05, (AFP) - A major 7.5-magnitude
earthquake shook an area in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the
US state of Alaska early Saturday, triggering a potentially
destructive local tsunami, the US government said. The epicenter of
the quake, which occurred at 0858 GMT, was located 102 kilometres
(63 miles) west of Craig, Alaska, at a depth of nine kilometres (5.5
miles), according to the United States Geological Survey.
India victim's male friend recounts Delhi rape attack

The friend of a woman who died after being raped
on a bus in Delhi has given his first interview since the
incident.The man, who has not been named, told Zee News how he and
the victim had boarded the bus and paid a fare, before he was beaten
unconscious by men on board, who then attacked her.

Malala Yusufzai leaves hospital

Pakistani teenager Malala Yusufzai has been
discharged from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The 15 year
old was shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan in October and
later flown to Britain for specialist treatment. She will continue
her rehabilitation at her family's temporary home in the West
Midlands before having cranial reconstructive surgery in the next
month, her doctors say.

Myanmar mediators urge Suu Kyi to help in Kachin war
