He said the constitutional characteristic preserved by President
Rajapaksa is an example in the removal of the Chief Justice through the
impeachment power given to the government by a two thirds majority in
Parliament.
The President has never breached any human rights or the rights of
the Judiciary in the context of the constitution.
He respected the rights of the masses, and never abused the powers of
the government. His roots as a young lawyer assisted him to become
President and he will never let the legal system to be a failure in Sri
Lanka, for which he has utmost respect.
During the last three decades of terrorism which caused bloodshed and
uncertainty President Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa
took the initiative to create a peaceful and safe motherland.
I would like to recall how my great grandfather (Methaiyas
Jayasuriya) predicted that one day the Rajapaksa family will unite and
create Sri Lanka under one flag which will respect all communities and
religions, like king Dutugemunu.
The development drive with new infrastructure changes is appreciated
by the community and the garden cities created by Gotabaya Rajapaksa,
will give a sense of mental and social satisfaction to calm the minds of
the masses.
We believe that the impeachment of the CJ imposed by the Parliament
created an awareness within Sri Lanka and the international community
that the allegations are not based on rumours but determined by a proper
legal system in a democratic country.
