Banking software solution to expedite Samurdhi network
By Gamini Warushamana
Sri Lanka Divineguma Department signed an agreement with Sri Lanka
Telecom (Services) Ltd to develop a banking software solution for
networking over 1,500 Samurdhi Bank branches and Samurdhi societies.
Director General of the Samurdhi Authority, Bandula Thilakasiri said
that the networking of the Samurdhi Bank branches was a long felt need
for the efficient management of funds belonging to Samurdhi
beneficiaries.
Samurdhi societies are community-based organisations and Samurdhi
Banks are fully recognised micro finance institutions. The recent
Supreme Court ruling too has recognised Samurdhi banks as secure
financial institutions.
“The Ministry of Economic Development and ICTA have supported us in
the computerisation project.
The software was developed by Sari Lanka Telecom Service. Pilot
projects have been commenced and all branches will be connected to the
network within six months,” Thilakasiri said.
CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom Service, Prasanna Perera said that the new
software has all the features found in advanced banking software and has
space for upgrading in the future.
This open sourced and web-based solution works in all three
languages. Micro insurance, micro leasing modules, ATM, mobile banking
and online banking services are other advantages, he said.
