New CEO at CIFL

The former CEO of Merchant Bank PLC (MBSL) Gamini Karunathilake has
been appointed CEO of Central Investments and Finance PLC (CIFL) by the
Board of CIFL with the concurrence of Central Bank from January 15.
Karunathilake said that he had no intention of working anywhere after
his retirement but accepted this proposal because it is a restructuring
exercise and a challenging task. Therefore, he sought the support of the
staff to create a healthy finance company operating within the
regulatory frame work of the country.
Karunathilake is a veteran banker who possesses vast knowledge and
experience in both commercial banking and merchant banking. He started
his banking career at the Bank of Ceylon and served in various
capacities before joining MBSL. Finally, he became the CEO of MBSL and
was able to sustain continuous growth of the bank during his tenure. He
had led the management team of MBSL Bank under the guidance of the then
chairman Janaka Ratnayake in restructuring companies such as The Finance
Co, FandG Finance Co, Asian Finance and Ceylinco Savings Bank .
