Food technology training for women
SABAH, (SAARC Business Association of Home Based Workers), a network
of Sri Lankan women food producers funded by the SAARC Development Fund
has initiated a number of local and international training programs for
a selected group of home based women food producers in Sri Lanka.
SABAH has selected nearly 1,000 women covering 10 districts in Sri
Lanka and has been developing their knowledge and skills through a
specially designed local and international training on food technology,
management, marketing, costing and packaging, its CEO Chopadithya
Edirisinghe told a press conference at the SABAH office recently. He
said that they have already sent some women groups to India on three
exposure visits and for a 25-day training program on food technology,
management and packaging.
Investing all the knowledge and skills developed in selected women
produce, SABAH has also launched a range of these food products of
higher quality targeting up-end markets.
These products are made with modern methods of hygiene and quality
without using any preservative, colouring or artificial flavours. SABAH
Sri Lanka aimed developing micro scale food producers into skilful
entrepreneurs enabling them to introduce the real Lankan taste to the
world.
