Nabbed with gold biscuits in footwear
Two Sri Lankan passengers bound for Mumbai, India from KIA were
apprehended by Customs officers on Friday for concealing nine gold
biscuits in the heels of their footwear, the Director of Customs and
media spokesman, Lesley Gamini said.
He said, the value of the gold biscuits are over Rs. 4.5 million and
they were confiscated. Two passengers were fined Rs. 50,000 each. The
raid was conducted by Assistant Superintendents of Customs Nuwan
Abeynayaka, Rohana Kumara and Chandima Karunaratne under the instruction
of Deputy Director of Customs Stanley Senaratne and Superintendent of
Customs Sudaththa Silva. -
