Isuru and Heshan help Royal pile up 357

Two fine centuries by Royalists Isuru Gunatileka (154) and Heshan Kumarasiri (110 n.o) was the main feature in the drawn school cricket encounter between Ananda and Royal concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

In reply to Ananda's first innings total of 253 for 9, Royal's reply was based on the solid foundation laid by the fifth wicket pair of Gunatileka and Kumarasiri who added 168 runs for the fifth wicket. Gunatileka's 154 contained twenty fours and two sixes facing 237 deliveries while Kumarasiri had 14 boundaries in his unbeaten 110 after facing 153 deliveries.

Ananda's Thamalka Athulathmudali was the most successful bowler for Ananda taking 4 for 98.

Ananda: 253 for 9 declared (Thamalka Athulathmudali 34, D. Madushan 33, T. Samarakoon 65, T. Dananjaya 34, S. Ashan 34, P. Aluthge 3 for 53, D. Pathmanathan 3 for 26 and Harith Samarasinghe 2 for 48).

Royal: 45 for 1 overnight 357 in 96.5 overs (Isuru Gunatileka 154, Sampath de Silva 36, Heshan Kumarasiri 110 n.o, Thamalka Athulathmudali 4 for 98).

Hewawasam shines for Joes

Set to make 183 runs to win in about 30 overs Trinity settled for a draw in their school cricket encounter against St. Joseph's at Darley Road yesterday.

Josephian Sachin Hewawasam gave a fine all-round display with a match bag of (8 for 57) and striking an useful (50) in the Joes first innings.

Trinity: 92 for 3 overnight 169 (Lakshitha Dassanayake 29, Ron Chandragupta 24, Kaveen Hiniduma 17, Arjuna Jayasinghe 24, Sachin Hewawasam 3 for 20, Priyamal Perera 3 for 24) and 118 for 8 in 29 overs (Lakshit Dassanayake 68, Ron Chandraguptha 23, Rasitha Jayatunga 13, Sachin Hewawasam 5 for 37).

Kaushalya 7 for 54 excels

Zahira's leg-spinner Amitha Kaushalya (7 for 54) did well to restrict Dharmapala for 188 on the first day of their school cricket encounter played at Maradana yesterday.

Dharmapala taking first lease managed only 188 due to Kaushalya's wicket taking spree. Vimukthi Radella 47 and Prashan Ratnayake 45 were main run getters for Dharmapala. In reply Zahira were 130 for 2 at close.

Dharmapala: 188 in 69.3 overs (Vimukthi Radella 47, Prashan Ratnayake 45, Jayampathy Bandara 24, Harsha Randika 23, Amitha Kaushalya 7 for 54).

Zahira: 130 for 2 in 27 overs (Nisky Ahamed 58, Arshad Immadeen 41 n.o).
