Kingswood stun Matale Thomians

Kingswood College, Kandy scored a surprise eight wicket win over St.
Thomas' College, Matale in their schools under-19 cricket tournament
match concluded at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday.
Batting first, the Matale Thomians made 142 all out, off spinner
Tharindu Liyanage took 4 for 55 and medium pacer Champika Aluvihare
polished off the tail to take 3 for 6.
The Kingswodians in reply were 98 for 5 at the end of the first days
play.
But play was not possible till 1.20 p.m. on the second day following
a helicopter landing. This loss of play at one stage took off the
interest in the game which was heading towards a draw. When play resumed
at 1.20 p.m. The Kingswodians struggled and it was their last pair
helped them to gain first innings points by taking the score from 134
for 9 to 146 all out.
The Matale Thomians batted the second time at 3.15 p.m. with only the
first innings completed. But the Thomians in a woeful batting display
were skittled at for a paltry 43 in just 21.3 overs. Fifteen-year-old
off-spinner Tharindu Liyanage getting a vicious turn took 6 for 23 to
return the match figure of 10 for 73 and he was supported by Sameera
Bandara who took 3 for 6.
The Kingswoodians requiring 43 runs to win in 16 overs reached their
target with nearly 10 overs to spare.
The first innings of this match was completed only at 3.15 on the
second day, but still the Kingswoodians who had a first innings lead of
only 3 runs won the match outright with 10 overs to spare.
St. Thomas College, Matale: 142 all out in 55 overs (Pandula
