Junior Open Golf Championship

Pushpika wins Gold Division:

Seventeen-year-old Chalitha Pushpika of Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) with an aggregate of 185 won the Gold Division while the Silver Division went to Zaffar Sikkander of RCGC and the Bronze Division was won by a six-year-old girl from Germany, Aurelia Kriwatte at the inaugural Regional Junior Open Golf Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread and worked off at the picturesque Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy.

Chalitha Pushpika, one of the talented golfers in the local golf scene registered scores of 80 and 86 over the two rounds and was 12 shots ahead of the runner-up R. Illaya Raja of Victoria Golf and Country Resort. In third place was L. Dhanushkaran of Victoria Golf and Country Resort. Illaya Raja made a gross score of 178 and Dhanushkaran 187. In the fourth place was Shenani Jagoda with 188 from the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

The winner of the Silver Division, Zaffar Sikkander of RCGC had a total of 157 made up of 73 and 84. In the second place was Prashan Peiris of Royal Colombo Golf Club with a total of 164 – 7 shots behind. In the third place was G.Dhanaraj of Victoria Golf and Country Resort with 184.

Bronze Division (Under 10)

Winner: Aurelia Kriwatte (Overseas School and Victoria Golf and Country Resort), Second place: Kayla Perera (RCGC), Third Place: Vinukwelikala (RCGC), Fourth place: S.D.M. Hirushan (RCGC), Fifth place: Dhalia Heshiba (VGCR),

Silver Division (Age 11-14 years): Winner: Zaffar Sikkander (RCGC), Second place: Prashan Peiris (RCGC) 164, Third place: G. Dhanaraj (VGCR) 184, Fourth place: Sathasara Dilshan (RCGC) 185.

Gold Division (Age 15-17 years): Winner Chalitha Pushpika (RCGC) 166, Second place: R. Illaya Raja (VGCR) 178, Third place: L. Dhanushkaran (VGCR) 187, Fourth place: Shemani Jagoda (RCGC) 188. R. Illaya Raja also performed the rare feat of hole in one.


T T Champions

Hansani Piumali of Anula Vidyalaya and Sandesh Nissanka of Ananda College, Colombo were adjudged Most Outstanding Players (Girls and Boys) at the Colombo District Table Tennis Championship organised by the Colombo District Table Tennis Association and worked off at the Lalith Athulathmudali College, Mount Lavinia.
