St.Peter’s, Kingswood and Rajans impress on day one

Defending champions Dharmaraja, Kingswood and St. Peter’s came up with impressive performances on the first day of the schools Under-20 Rugby Sevens worked off at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday. The only upset of the day was the stunning 24-7 win by lowly placed C.W.W. Kannangara MV, Borella over Trinity College, Kandy.

Premier League Tournament:

SSC pile up 511 for 7

Test discard veteran Thilan Samaraweera scored a century in the SSC's 511 for 7 wickets against NCC on the second day played at SSC yesterday. The 36-year-old Samaraweera, who has so far scored 310 runs with a 77.50 average in this domestic season, hit 111 runs with 11 fours and two sixes.

St. Peter’s College had to be satisfied with a first innings win by 96 runs against Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa in their inter school Under-19 cricket match worked off at Bambalapitiya. Resuming at 118 for 4 in reply to Peterite’s total of 286 on day two Vazians were all out for 190 runs with skipper Kasun Vidura (69) and Sevwinda Silva unbeaten on 52 and they had a valuable partnership of 54 runs for the sixth wicket.
