"During my film student days in Manhattan in New York City, The
Village Voice and New York Times helped me a lot to understand cultural
trends and the art scene in the city. Being back in Colombo, the Sunday
Observer is one of the very few ways to keep in touch with the arts,
cultural and literature trends in-depth over here. Therefore, I would
like to wish the very best for the Sunday Observer to keep doing what
they have been good at doing to the arts and culture in Sri Lanka".

It was hard to find a good English newspaper in Sri Lanka for the
English speaking community till the Sunday Observer took the initiative.
A few decades ago the Sunday Observer was the main source to establish
the State ideology among the English speaking, upper middle class
society. Still I remember the demand for the Sunday Observer from the
beginning and I'm one of the constant readers of this leading newspaper.
From the beginning the Sunday Observer maintained the trustworthiness of
the readers and the credibility of its content. Readers could always
rely on its content which I think is a progressive aspect of media. Most
importantly before the telecommunication revolution, the Sunday Observer
was the only easy medium that we had to grab international news and
updates.
Therefore, it is not a hyperbole to call this remarkable paper a
heritage of the national media and I wish the Sunday Observer all
success.
