Seylan Bank profits exceed Rs 3 b
Seylan Bank recorded an impressive 2012 performance with profits
before income tax reaching Rs 3.184 billion for the 12 months ended
December 31, 2012. Profits after tax for the year surpassed Rs. 2
billion for the first time in its history recording Rs. 2.049 billion
which is a 208% increase compared to the Rs 665 million reported under
SLFRS/LKAS Accounting Standards adopted this year.
ADB President to step down
MANILA, Philippines: As Asian Development Bank (ADB) President
Aruhiko Kuroda has been nominated as governor of the Bank of Japan by
the Cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the ADB said that
Kuroda had submitted his resignation from ADB, effective March 18.
The Board of Governors of the ADB will elect a successor in
accordance with ADB’s Charter.
Kuroda is a graduate of the Tokyo University and the University of
Oxford, and previously served as Japan’s Vice Minister of Finance for
International Affairs. Kuroda serves simultaneously as President of ADB
and Chairperson of ADB’s Board of Directors.
Ayurveda 2013 exhibition
Ayurveda 2013, an international indigenous health care exhibition
organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will be held
at the BMICH from July 12-14.
ACCA delegation pays courtesy call
A top level delegation of the ACCA made a courtesy call at the
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka),
recently. The ACCA delegation led by Executive Director, Markets, Steve
Heathcote, Director, Emerging Markets, Ms. Lucia Real-Martin and Market
Head for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Ms. Nilusha Ranasinghe met the CA Sri
Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse, Vice President Arjuna Herath and
Secretary and CEO Aruna Alwis to deliberate on matters of mutual
interest.
CA Sri Lanka in its capacity as the national body of accountants has
been working very closely with its global counterparts towards the
development of the accounting profession in the country and creating
value for its students and members.
SAP to acquire SmartOps
SAP AG plans to acquire SmartOps and smartops.com, a provider of
inventory and service-level optimisation software solutions.
“The acquisition will help SAP to develop 'real-time supply chain'
software solutions, leveraging the SAP HANA platform which empowers
customers to run their businesses in real time to analyse, predict,
react and adjust instantly,” a spokesman for the company said.
“SmartOps provides operating parameters and targets for supply chain
management (SCM) planning. The company's solutions coordinate capacity,
inventory, demand, lead time and product availability variables,” he
said.
Odel fetes loyal staff
Odel felicitated staff for long service earlier this month. Two
employees, Ms. A. L. P. Dilrukshi Perera and W. L. Pradeep K.
Karunarathne who had completed 20 years were among 80 staff recognised
for service of five, 10, 15 and 20 years at this event. Here the
employees receive their award from Odel CEO Ms Otara Gunewardene.
BoC awards Mega Vasi winners
The Bank of Ceylon awarded gifts to its Mega Vasi raffle draw winners
of the Eastern Province at the Ariyavan reception hall, Ampara recently.
