Escape from Planet Earth
Escape from Planet Earth, now screened at the Savoy 3D Cinema is an
2013 3D computer animated family film produced by Rainmaker
Entertainment and directed by Cal Brunker.
The story takes place on planet Baab where admired astronaut Scorch
Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero to the blue alien
population. A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing
feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head
of mission control at BASA.
When BASA's no-nonsense chief Lena (Jessica Alba) informs the
brothers of an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet, Scorch rejects
Gary's warnings and bounds off for yet another exciting mission. But
when Scorch finds himself caught in a fiendish trap set by the evil
Shanker (William Shatner), it's up to scrawny, risk adverse Gary to do
the real rescuing.
As the interplanetary stakes rise to new heights, Gary is left to
save his brother, his planet, his beloved wife Kira (Sarah Jessica
Parker) and their adventure-hungry son Kip (Jonathan Morgan Heit).
The cast includes Rob Corddry, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Jessica, Brendan
Fraser, Jessica Alba, Jonathan Morgan Heit, William Shatner, Craig
Robinson, Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, George Lopez and Gregg Binkley.
Slide lecture on: The World Heritage City of Anuradhapura
The Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is organising a slide lecture
titled "The World Heritage City of Anuradhapura" by Vidya Jyothi Ashley
de Vos on March 8 at 6 p.m at its auditorium Colombo 7.
The talk will cover an introduction to the evolution of the city from
its beginnings in 500 BC to its destruction in 10 C ADE including a
re-creation of an important element in the 8 C ADE.
Ashley de Vos is a Fellow of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects
and a Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
He has trained as a Chartered Architect (UK), Landscape Architect
(UK.) and in Architectural Conservation and Heritage Management (Rome,
Italy).
A blend of traditions: Diverse music from three continents
Music lovers in Sri Lanka are in for a night of musical indulgence as
the Norwegian Embassy, Concerts Norway, Sewalanka Foundation together
with Aru Sri Art Theatre present 'Blend of Traditions', a concert
showcasing diverse music from three continents, 'Casa Murilo + Hat-Trick
and Fiddle (Norway), Chirkutt + Nritya Nandan (Bangladesh), Harmonia Do
Brasil (Brazil), Ila Arun Troupe (India) and Sabreen Association
(Palestine)'.
So, if you are in for a night of pleasant surprises and want to
experience what it sounds and looks like when different traditions
display their culture, music and dance altogether in one venue, join us
on March 4 at the Samudra Hotel Auditorium, the Sri Lanka Institute of
Tourism and Hotel Management at 6:30 pm. Entrance for the concert is
free. Thus far, there have been 15 groups who have toured Sri Lanka over
the past three years, as a portion of a wider music cooperation
established between the Norwegian Embassy, Concerts Norway, Sewalanka
Foundation and Aru Sri Art Theatre.
The groups will also be performing at the Jaffna Music Festival
(which is a component of the Music Cooperation) on March 1 and 2.
The Jaffna Music Festival is the sister event of the Galle Music
Festival which began in Galle in 2009 and since then, there have been
three Music Festivals in Galle and Jaffna consecutively, where the last
Galle Music Festival 2012 attracted an audience of over 23,000. |
