A blistering unbeaten ton by Dilsahn :

Lanka trounce Bangladesh by eight wickets

A blistering century by opener Tillakaratne Dilshan guided Sri Lanka to an easy-eight wicket win over Bangladesh in their first One Day International played under lights at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Sooriyawewa yesterday.

Taking the first lease of the wicket, Bangladesh made 259 for 8 in 50 overs. Following a technical problem in the lighting sytem, Sri Lanka was given a reduced target of 238 in 41 overs. The home team made 238 for 2 in 35.4 overs with Dilshan unbeaten on 113. Dilshan shared a valuable 128-run second wicket partnership with Kumar Sangakkara (63).

Earlier, Dilshan and Kaushal Perera (42) put on 106 runs for the first wicket .

Tamim Iqbal smashed an impressive century as Bangladesh posted a competitive 259-8 in their alloted 50 overs.

The left-handed opener (112) hit one six and 10 fours in his fourth one-day hundred to lead Bangladesh's recovery after three wickets had fallen for 63 runs in the opening 13 overs.

Tamim, who reached his century with an edged four off seamer Angelo Mathews, put on 66 for the fourth wicket with Mohammad Mahmudullah (29) and 75 for the next with Nasir Hossain (73 not out).

The opener, who became the first Bangladeshi to score a hundred against Sri Lanka in one-day internationals, was run out in the 44th over.

Nasir cracked three sixes and six fours in his brisk 59-ball knock. Pacemen Lasith Malinga and Mathews each bagged two wickets in the day-night match, briefly halted by a swarm of bees in the initial stages. The play was also held up late in the innings due to power failure.

Bangladesh, put in to bat, lost three wickets in the space of 19 runs after Tamim and Anamul Haque put on 44 for the opening wicket.

Seamer Thisara Perera struck in his second over when he bowled Anamul (13) while paceman Nuwan Kulasekara removed Mohammad Ashraful, who was superbly caught by a diving Kushal Perera at mid-off.

Mathews got a wicket with his fifth delivery when he trapped skipper Mushfiqur Rahim leg-before for three. Bangladesh paceman Ziaur Rahman made his one-day debut.
