Isipathana College took major honours, but failed to give the finishing touches to a game that would have gone in their favour in their 50th cricket encounter against Thurstan which ended in a draw at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Isipathana dominated the proceedings for a good length of the two day encounter enforcing Thurstan to follow on. In reply to Isipathana’s 256 in the first innings, Thurstan were dismissed for 138. Kavindu Kulasekera 34, Ramindu Kumarasinghe 26 and Thimira Jayasinghe 22 the main contributors towards the Thurstanite total. Kelum Bastiansz (4 for 45) and Chameera Dissanayake (3 for 19) bowled best for Thurstan.

Thurstan were made to follow - on around 11.45 am with a deficit of 118 and were given a reasonable start by their openers Milhaj Jaleel (28) and Thrindu Silva (29) who put on 61 runs and another third wicket stand of 42 by Kavindu Kulasekera and Chaarana Nanayakkara.

By tea Thurstan had just wiped the follow on mark of 118 for 3 wickets facing 39 overs. Resolute batting by Charana Nanayakkara 39 and a fine unbeaten 62 by Thimira Jayasinghe facing ninety two deliveries kept Isipathana at bay. The match was stopped around 6.00 pm due to bad light with six overs still remaining.
