KDCA conducted many tournaments even with only one playground

Lalith Rambukwella has been unanimously re-elected for a record 14th successive year as the President of the Kegalle District Cricket Association at the Annual General meeting held in Kegalle. Speaking on the occasion, Lalith Rambukwella thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him for electing him for the 14th successive year.

He said that the Kegalle District Cricket Association (KDCA) should take pride in the fact that despite the town having just one playground, they were able to conduct with much success the Division III Inter-Cricket Tournament, the Under-15 Prima Inter-District Tournament, Denis Peiris Memorial Challenge Cup Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament, the Under-19 Inter-Provincial Cricket Tournament matches and coaching clinics for under-13 and under-19 cricketers.

These were handled by the Provincial Cricket Coach Sunil Fernando and District Coach Migara Ekanayake and the District Coaches from Kandy Suresh Peiris and Amila Pinnaduwa.

The lack of another cricket ground in Kegalle continues to be a handicap and efforts are being made to locate suitable site for this and take this matter up with the authorities concerned to help provide this facility for cricket playing clubs and school in Kegalle.

A new playground is under construction for Kegalu Vidyalaya and the other schools and clubs could make use of it when available.

There is a move to develop the public grounds at Kegalle to provide enhanced facilities for athletics, rugby, football and cricket too would benefit from this. Former St. Mary’s College cricketer and the incumbent Treasurer of the Central Province Cricket Association M.J.S. Nawas did one better when he was re-elected as the Honorary secretary of the Kegalle DCA for the 15th successive year. Both Lalith Rambukwella and M.J.S. Nawas have a record of unbroken partnership of 14 years as the President and Secretary.
