4,000 Grama Niladharis to join service soon

The Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry has taken steps to appoint 4,000 Grama Niladharis in all parts of the country including the North and the East. A competitive examination to appoint the new Grama Niladharis was held recently, Ministry sources said.

The competitive examination was held in 752 centres representing all parts of the country and 98,000 candidates appeared for the examination, the sources said.

The examination was held in Tamil and Sinhala media.

Those who qualified in the Tamil medium will be appointed for the vacancies in the North and the East. During the past two years, the Government has made over 4,000 Grama Niladhari appointments, according to Ministry sources. There are 4,000 vacancies for Grama Niladharis including those created by the retirement of existing Grama Niladharis. Thus, immediate action was taken to fill these vacancies, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said.

Besides, the Minister said, during his district visits, the District Secretaries had brought to his attention the fact that the lack of Grama Niladharis has caused severe inconvenience in the administration matters.
