Fity six deaths due to lightning in 2012

NWPC Ministry of Education has instructed all school heads of both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts to educate school community on the possible risk of being attacked by thunder bolts and lightening during rainy days.

Accordingly, 500 awareness programs will be organised at school level during the next two months. According to the statistics of the Met Department, 56 persons including school students and farmers have died of being attacked by thunder-bolts and lightning during 2012.

Due to lack of knowledge on natural disasters, many people face unfortunate deaths and hence all measures should be taken by govt. authorities to enlighten general public on the dangers of different types of natural disasters and possible preventive measures.
