Chennai Express:

A Bollywood experience

The Bollywood blockbuster Chennai Express was released in Sri Lanka by Ceylon Theatres in anticipation of the the world premiere.

It was screened at the Majestic City on August 9. Three unique street performances were held in different locations across the city depicting scenes from the movies to promote the blockbuster.

The first promotion took place at the Fort Railway Station, Nugegoda Railway Station and Majestic City. Actors wearing bright costumes playing Shahrukh Kahn and Deepika Padukone, acted out scenes and danced along to selected tracks from the movie making hundreds of travellers stop in their tracks to watch, film, and take pictures of the spectacle. All three performances were filmed and when combined, created Ceylon Theatre’s very own version of the Chennai Express trailer.

Ceylon Theatres created a Facebook page called Collywood Express with a Facebook user by the name of Rahul Kahn (a combination of Shahrukh Kahn’s name and the name of the character he plays in the movie). Without announcing the name of the movie, Rahul Kahn posted daily updates and questions about the upcoming film encouraging people to interact on the page.

Prior to the launch, Collywood Express revealed its identity as Ceylon Theatres debuting the theatres first official Facebook page.
