Student NICs: Prompt action needed by school heads
by S.M. Wijayaratne, Kurunegala Cor.
Most school heads in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts of the NWP
have failed to obtain National ID cards for their school candidates who
are to sit the G.C.E. (O/L) examination 2013 in December. Some
government school heads in the Kurunegala district are reported to be
negligent in obtaining NICs early for the students.
The Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of
Persons, Sarath Kumara has informed all government school heads to send
in their candidates' application forms for NICs as soon as possible.
Due to the negligence of some school heads, many students who sat the
G.C.E. (A/L) 2013 were reported to have undergone much inconvenience as
they were unable to get their NICs on time.
The Education Ministry has instructed all school heads to give
priority to the matter and several regional centres would be set up
islandwide by the Department of Registration of Persons to overcome the
obstacles faced by school candidates, said the Director of Education
W.M. Balasooriya at a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala District
recently at the Bingiriya Education Office. |
