Cremation of Ven. Dr. Soratha Thera on Oct. 2
 The Chief Incumbent of Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya and Uva Wellassa
University Chancellor, Ven. Dr. Aluthwewe Soratha Thera passed away at a
private hospital in Colombo on Friday. The Ven. Dr. Soratha Thera was
the Chief Sanghanayake of Ruhunu Magampattuwa.
Born on April 5, 1943 at Aluthwewa in Angunukolapalassa, the Thera
received his education at Sri Lanka Vidyalaya, Maradana, Maligakanda
Vidyodaya Pirivena and Sri Jayawardenapura University.
The Thera was ordained at Malwathu Viharaya, Kandy as a disciple of
Ven.Aluthwewa Medhankara Nayaka Thera, Ven.Paraththe Ananda Nayaka thera
and Ven. Polommaruwe Revatha Nayake Thera. Ven. Dr. Soratha Thera was an
erudite monk who wrote several books.
At the time of the demise he was the Monaragala District
Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya President and Chief Sanghanayake of Ruhunu
Magam Pattuwa. Kataragama Devalaya will remain closed to the public from
Saturday to October 2, 6.30 p.m. as a mark of respect.
The funeral will take place on October 2 (Wednesday), at 2.00pm at
Ranjith Madduma Babdara playground at Kataragama new town.
