'Hopes of a permanent bridge across the Digiliya Canal shattered'

More than 500 villagers of Imbulgoda in Akuressa including this octogenarian have to make this hazardous crossing across the Digiliya canal daily to attend to their daily needs or make a five kilo meter detour.

The Digiliya canal originating in Indiyagala is a tributary of the Nilwala river. Villagers allege that the foundations laid and columns raised for the eight-foot wide permanent crossing which would have replaced this hazardous foot bridge has been abandoned simply because it was originated by S L Sunil the ex chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha.
