Tea production up 5.9 m kilos from Jan-Sept
The tea crop of 25 million kilograms for September shows a decline of
8.7% compared to the corresponding month of the past year. Although
production of high and medium elevation teas did show a month-on-month
increase, the negative variance for Low Grown elevation teas has
contributed to the overall deficit for September 2013 when compared to
2012.
From January to September, 2013, 248.4 million kgs (mkgs) was
harvested which was a gain of 5.9 mkgs over last year's figure and, all
three elevation categories have shown improved production during the
cumulative period this year.
CCC registers 160 participants for CBF
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) reported that it had registered
160 participants for the upcoming Commonwealth Business Forum 2013 from
diverse business sectors.
"All registered delegates are top and middle management level
executives from renowned and well established companies in the country,"
a Chamber spokesman said. The CBF theme for 2013, 'Partnering for wealth
creation and social development: The Commonwealth, Indian Ocean and
SAARC', is a platform for participants to enhance opportunities in their
respective business concerns.

DFCC’s Annual Report clinches top award
DFCC Bank’s annual report received six awards; a Gold, a Silver,
three Bronzes and one Honours, while topping it all with the Grand award
for the Best of Country Report at the world’s largest annual report
competition held in New York, USA recently.
The 27th International ARC awards 2013 this year received a record
2,260 entries from 34 countries while over 50 Reports from almost all
top companies in Sri Lanka had been entered.
The DFCC Report and the report of its commercial banking subsidiary,
Vardhana Bank, was also recognised recently at the Vision Awards
conducted by the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP),
winning Gold in its competition classes.
