Schoolboy Cricketer Mendis leads Lanka’s U-19
The Sunday Observer/Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer
of The Year Kusal Mendis is tipped to lead Sri Lanka for the Under
19 Asia Cup cricket tournament to be held in the UAE in December
2013/2014. Mendis from Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa has been a
prolific scorer during the school cricket season and his ability to
bat and keep wickets with authority has won the confidence of the
selectors.

Madagascar in exciting 17-12 win
A fine piece of individual brilliance during the
latter part of the game by winger Roskotoariveld Benjamina who
ruthlessly cut through the Sri Lankan defence to score a try helped
Madagascar to draw first blood beating Sri Lanka by 17 points (1
goal and 2 tries) to 12 (4 penalties) in the opening match of the
Dialog Serendib Rugby Tournament match played at the Race Course
grounds at Reid Avenue yesterday.

S Thomas’ oarsmen win Regatta easily
S Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia oarsmen won the
annual Regatta and Boat Race comprehensively to grab the TN Fernando
Memorial Trophy for the 20th time in history of the Sri Lanka’s
pioneer schools Rowing Regatta, which is held against Royal College,
Colombo.
