CHOGM expenses are long-term investments – IDB Chairman

CHOGM will definitely bring huge economic benefits to the country and, therefore, the expenses for this international event are long-term investments, said Industrial Development Board (IDB), Chairman, Navaz Rajabdeen. The Sri Lanka Association of Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) has submittted a series of proposals for the 2014 Budget to accelerate development of the IT and BPO industry in Sri Lanka, one of the top five export revenue earners. The Association has called upon the government to brand Sri Lanka as the fast emerging South Asian knowledge service hub for selected niche services.

Spice exports to EU increase

Sri Lanka's spice and herbal product exports have grown steadily over the years, said Head of Mission, European Union (EU), David Daly at the 10th Annual General Meeting of the Spice Council last week. He said that the EU imports around 28,500 tonnes of spices from developing countries and added that imports from Sri Lanka is on the rise.

People's Bank Jaya Sri grand draw in December

The People’s Bank launched the Jaya Sri monthly draw in April this year. The total prize money on offer for 2013 is Rs 1,220 lakhs. The first prize winner at the monthly draw will receive a Suzuki Alto motor car, while 24 second place winners from each of the People’s Bank divisions receive Rs. 100,000 each.
