Wignes’ statement on separatism hailed
by P. Krishnaswamy
Northern province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran’s statement that
the Northern Tamils have rejected separatism would be welcomed by all
peace-loving people of the country, Minister of Human Resources Dew
Gunasekera told the Sunday Observer.
He was referring to CM Wigneswaran’s maiden speech at the first
sitting of the Council on Friday.
Separatism was the outcry of some Tamil leaders during the height of
LTTE terrorism. It is a welcome move that they have now changed that
stance and joined the administration of the Northern PC, he said.
All contentious issues, whether it be land and police powers or other
matters, the TNA would take recourse to negotiations with the central
government and shun confrontational politics, the Minister said.
