Training for family health nurses on eye problems

The Ministry of Health will train family health nurses islandwide to detect and diagnose vision problems. Family health nurses deal with rural folk frequently, paying house-to-house visits.

By giving them this training, the Ministry can expand its mobile eye clinic services to rural areas easily, paving the way for children, the elderly and low-income groups to access the free health services of the Government more conveniently.

Family health nurses can identify eye disorders at an early stage and direct patients for further medical treatment, said Assistant DMO Kurunegala Dr. A.M. Priyadarshana.

Family health nurses numbering 1,500 would be trained shortly.
