19th century photographs in Berlin

An exhibition of historical 19th century photographs under the title
"Landscapes of Sri Lanka" was inaugurated recently in Berlin, Germany to
mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and
Germany, by Minister of National Heritage Dr. Jagath Balasuriya.
President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa had a private view of the
expo when he stopped over in Berlin returning from New York, after
attending the sixty-eigth session of the General Assembly of the UN.
Having been very much impressed with the display, the President
commended the remarkable initiative of the Ambassador and the Museum of
Asian Art for the remarkable initiative, which brings out the historical
connection between the two nations.
The Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage, Governor of Southern Province
Kumari Balasuriya and Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage Dr. Nanda
Wickramasinghe, members of the diplomatic community accredited to
Germany and the staff of the Embassy were present at the ceremony.A
scholastic catalogue with bilingual texts containing all the exhibited
photographs with articles by scholars was published.
The Ambassador presented a catalogue to President Rajapaksa.
