Crucial UNP meeting on Oct 31

The most crucial meeting of the UNP trio - Ranil Wickremesinghe, Karu
Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa will be held on October 31 afternoon.
The United Bhikkhu Front headed by Ven. Girambe Ananda Thera has
volunteered to help reorganise the party and proposed some guidelines to
be followed by the incumbent leader of the party Ranil Wickremesinghe
and other frontrunners.
The party hierarchy’s response to the Maha Sangha was positive at the
outset and the Bhikkhu Front briefed the chief prelates of the three
Nikayas about the progress of their intervention and the subsequent
developments.
The National Organiser of the UNP Daya Gamage told the Sunday
Observer that they always seek the advice of not only the Maha Sangha,
but also other religious dignitaries and respect their views.
But it is not correct to create any rifts or division among the Maha
Sangha over the UNP’s internal matters as expressed by certain
unscrupulous politicans who are envious of seeing the United National
Party getting more united. It is hoped that the October 31 meeting would
be of paramount importance in the party’s forward march to regain its
lost glory, said Gamage. |
