Gunmen rob businessman

An unknown gunman reportedly took a shot at a Tamil businessman of Puttalam town and snatched approximately Rs. 500,000 from him at about 9.00 p.m. It has been reported to Puttalam Police that while the victim, 61-year-old Ayappan Parameswaran, alias Kandiah, the owner of Vinayagar Stores of Puttalam town was approaching his house after the day's business, two masked gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle attempted to snatch his purse and, in the course of the struggle, a locally made gun had gone off severely injuring the victim.

The victim has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital from the Puttalam Base Hospital for further treatment and further instigation is underway, the Police said.
