Speed post courier service to overcome delays

The Postal Department introduced its speed post courier service on
Friday at a ceremony at the Central Mail Exchange (CME) under the
patronage of Post Master General Rohana Abeyratne.
Abeyratne said that the delays experienced in sending parcels and
letters can be overcome through the new service. Steps have been taken
to deliver the letter or parcel to the recipient within 24 hours.
They will be delivered within four hours in the Colombo city limits
and to Moratuwa, Maharagama, Boralasgamuwa, Kaduwela, Biyagama,
Kadawatha and Ja-ela within six hours, according to Ministry sources.
Letters and parcels will be delivered to the main cities across the
country within the courier network area before 11.00 the next day and
the peripheral cities beyond the courier network will be within one or
two days and rural areas within three days.
The newly introduced service is fast, reliable, safe and economical,
Ministry sources said. The sources said that Rs. 50 will be charged for
a 50 gramme parcel within the courier network area and Rs. 65 out of the
network area. Rs. 10 will be charged for every 20 grammes up to 100
grammes. Rs. 95 will be charged for a 150 gramme consignment within the
network area and Rs. 110 out of the network area and Rs. 5 for every 50
grammes up to 250 grammes.
