Decision reversed after six months

The Puttalam Urban Council unanimously resolved to reverse its previous decision to hold the Week-End fair from Saturday to Sunday.

Six months age the council has unanimously resolved to shift the Week-End fair from Sunday to Saturday. At the time the proponents argued that working class must enjoy a week-end day off to relax and involve in their private activities.

One of the most important reasons for what the Sunday day off system introduced was that when the council started anti dengue campaign, most of the working class did not participate to it. Their simple excuse was that Sunday was their busy working day.

The business community of Puttalam town was not happy to change their generations old Saturday day off system, because they happened to lose their regular week-end customers. Their customers went to other areas such as Mudurankuli and elsewhere for their week-end shopping.

When the Puttalam Urban Council met for its 2013 October Monthly session, the Vice Chairman of that Council R.A.S. Pushpakumara moved that the Saturday fair system be changed.
