‘Govt plays pivotal role in CHOGM’s success’
by P. Krishnaswamy
The Government is playing a pivotal role for the success of CHOGM
2013, Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella told
the Sunday Observer.
His Ministry is working round the clock to ensure that all
arrangements relating to media coverage of the international event are
in place and expressed confidence that Sri Lanka’s contribution to the
meeting will be as anticipated.
Channel 4 Director Callum Macrae is also being given the visa to see
the ground realities.
As he had not visited the country earlier he may have been influenced
by pro-LTTE diaspora groups or other sinister elements who are bent on
tarnishing Sri Lanka’s image. Hence the Government invites others also
to see the ground realities for themselves, the Minister said.
Commenting on the TNA’s protests on hosting CHOGM in Colombo and
their representations to foreign dignitaries visiting the North, the
Minister said that everything that they asked for, including the
restoration of peace, democracy and civil administration has been given
but they continue to accuse the Government.
They have been doing so from the beginning and they may be working on
an agenda known only to them, the Minister said.
