Indians nabbed with gold
by Kurulu Kariyakarawana
Two Indians who tried to smuggle out 17 pieces of gold worth Rs. 8.5
million, hidden in their rectal cavities, were taken in to custody by
Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday
morning.
Each suspect had concealed six pieces of gold in their rectums and
the rest in their footwear.
This was the second attempt to smuggle gold out of the country since
last Saturday, Customs spokesman, Director Leslie Gamini said.
The suspects were reportedly bound for India when they were caught on
suspicion. They will be produced in Courts. The Airport Customs branch
is conducting investigations.
