A meaningful Christmas
Every year, around this time, most people’s
thoughts turn to Christmas. It is the time when professing
Christians are supposed to focus on Jesus Christ. After all, it is
the ‘Christ-mass’ season! Traditionally, Christmas is thought to be
a wonderful time, with its focus on giving, family togetherness,
beautiful music and decorations, feasting on special foods and
singing Christmas carols.

In this advanced Digital Age where knowledge is
available on the click of a button, only old blokes appear to
appreciate poetry. If you ask a modern day student whether he reads
poetry, he will want to know why he should do so. In fact, a college
student asked his lecturer, “What is poetry?” the lecturer repeated
Robert Frost’s classic definition: “Poetry is the kind of thing
poets write.”

Towards a better bus service
The Government’s plan to import and deploy an
additional 2,000 buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board is
commendable. A sum of Rs.1,000 million has been allocated for this
endeavour. The SLTB’s fleet is nowhere near that of the private
sector, which seemingly has a commanding lead in the passenger
transport sector. This will help augment the SLTB fleet to some
extent.
