Tea production improves
The tea crop of 29.7million kilograms recorded for November, 2013
showed a decrease of 0.8 million kilograms when compared to the crop of
the corresponding month of 2012.
Production of all three elevations showed a month-on-month drop, with
the largest being from the Low Growns. However, from January to
November, 2013, 309 million kilograms were harvested which was a gain of
8.4 million kilograms over last year’s corresponding crop of 300 million
kilograms.
All three elevation categories have shown improved production during
the cumulative period last year with the largest increase of 3.6 million
kilograms from Low Growns while, medium and high elevation teas have
seen production gains of 2.7 million kilograms and 1.9 million
kilograms. The Sri Lanka tea crop for 2013 has surpassed the previous
year’s record figure of 328.3 million kilograms. |
