DSS in easy win over Cambrians

DS Senanayake College Colombo recorded an emphatic nine wicket outright win over Prince of Wales College Moratuwa in their inter-school Under-19 Division I cricket tournament match, which ended at DS grounds, Colombo on Saturday.

Batting first, Prince of Wales were skittled out for 83 in the first innings as Thimila Vidyasekara took four for 28 while Raveen de Silva and Duleeka Brahmanage captured 2 for 22. DS Senanayake College made 208 in the first innings as Cambrian bowlers Sachith Pushpakumara and Shanuka Dulaj shared six wickets each while Thilina Nimesh claimed two wickets.

In the second innings, Prince of Wales were again pathetically dismissed for 134 as Raveen de Silva had four wickets for 13 and Osun Bulathsinhala took three for 37.

DSS, set a nine-run target, lost one wicket when they scored 10 runs in 3.2 overs.

Prince of Wales: 83 all out in 44.2 overs (Krishen Aponsu 27, Jayanga Nimesh 17, Duleeka Brahmanage 2-22, Thimila Viydasekara 4-28, Raveen de Silva 2-4) and 134 all out in 54.4 overs (Gayan Chamara 32, Shanuka Dulaj 28, Jayanga Peiris 23, Osun Bulathsinhala 3-37, Raveen de Silva 4-13).

DSS: 208 all out in 57 overs (Uvin Bandara 20, Duleeka Brahmanage 24, Shifran Muthalif 22, Udesh Senanayake 23 n.o., Sachin Pushpakumara 3-65, Thilina Nimesh 2-32, Shanuka Dulaj 3-18) and 10-1 in 3.2 overs.

Salman's century brings first innings win for Zahira

Zahira skipper Salman Fazil's power-packed century and brilliant bowling guided Zahira College Colombo for a first innings win over Lumbini College in their inter-school Under-19 Division I cricket tournament match, which ended in a draw at Maradana on Saturday.

Fazil hit his first First XI century - 134 from 137 balls including 18 fours and five sixes. The sixth-year coloursman put on an invaluable 150-run partnership for the third wicket with Mohamed Inshaf (47) as Zahira College made 307-6 in the second innings at the end of the match yesterday.

Earlier, Lumbini College made 237 in their first innings. Salman Fazil scalped three for 70 while Ramzan Rafaideen (3-37) and Mohamed Shaheel (2-40) excelled for Zahira. Zahira College had scored 239 in their first innings.

This first innings win was especial for Zahira as they beat table leaders of the Division I tournament, Lumibini College, who have five outright wins so far. It was Zahira's fifth first innings win adding to their two outright wins in the season.

Zahira College: 239 all out in 57 overs (Niksy Ahamed 96, Mohamed Inshaf 38, Ahamed Ashlan 25, Tharushan Iddamalgoda 4-72, Upekshitha Karunaratne 4-19, Chamara Nishantha 2-51) and 307-6 in 69 overs (Salman Fazil 134, Mohamed Inshaf 47, Deepa Samarasekara 28, Niksy Ahamed 26, Arshad Imamudeen 25, Ahamed Aslan 20 n.o, Chamara Nishantha 2-40, Tharushan Iddamalgoda 2-77).

Lumbini College: 237 all out in 67 overs (Madushan Dabare 38, Tharushan Iddamalgoda 77 n.o, Wasana Madusanka 47, Ramzan Rafaideen 3-37, Salman Fazil 3-70, Mohamed Shaheel 2-40).
