CSE conducts program for young accountants
The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) held a program on Monday to educate
students of the Chartered Institute of Accountants (CA)on the workings
of the Capital Market.
The event was held from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm at the CA premises in
Colombo. Over 120 young accounting students and professionals were
present.
It was open to CA students including strategic level I and II and top
CA students.
Manager Research, CSE, Nishantha Hewavithana, made a presentation on
'Investment Opportunities in the Capital Market'. Thereafter, the floor
was opened for questions, after which they met stockbrokers and Unit
Trust representatives to discuss opening Central Depository System (CDS)
accounts.
Many students raised queries and clarified doubts and misconceptions
which they had about investment in the capital market. A key concern for
many, was the initial investment needed to venture into the capital
market.
Large amounts of capital is not necessary to invest in the market and
they can start with a limited amount of funds.
"The Capital Market is an exciting endeavour, especially for those
who are interested in converting a part of their savings to rewarding
investments.
"In this presentation we have only given some basic details of all
the interesting information that is available to investors and potential
investors," Hewavithana said.
"We hope that students take a fervent interest in investing in debt
and equity and look at it as a challenging and rewarding experience," he
said.
"As a knowledge based organisation we are keen on educating future
generations of potential investors on the workings of the capital
market.
To create the next generation of prudent investors who are savvy
about the market, it is important to provide them with the information
and skills to make wise investment decisions, at an early stage in their
educational and professional lives," CSE Investor Relations and Branch
Operations, Assistant Manager Nishantha Batagalle said. |
