Fillip for research in food processing

There will be tax reductions for research and development in the food processing industry, said Industry and Commerce Ministry Secretary Dr. Anura Siriwardena at the launch of the 13th edition of the Pro Food Pro Pack and Agbiz exhibition which will be held at the BMICH from August 22-24.

Luxury train service to Pallai

A luxury train service with fully air-conditioned compartments from Colombo to Pallai will be launched on March 7, CGR officials said. This train service starts with the completion of reconstruction of the Northern railway track from Kilinochchi to Pallai.

Drought affects rice prices

The prolonged drought has caused rice prices to rise, market sources said. Traders at the Pettah wholesale market said that supplies are low and prices have gone above stipulated prices. According to statistics released by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) rice prices have increased between 2.7-12.9 percent compared to February 2013 prices.

Ceylon Cinnamon secures two international trademarks

Ceylon Cinnamon, which is Sri Lanka's second global brand, has secured its trademark at two more leading markets - with another country application in the registration process. Export Development Board (EDB) Chairman Bandula Egodage commended the EDB's Agro Division for its efforts at the monthly review meeting of the EDB last week.
