Faizer meets business community in Europe
by Naalir Jamaldeen
The Government has disbursed over USD 300 million for development
efforts in the North and the East, Deputy Investment Promotion Minister
Faizer Mustapha said at a discussion with the business community and
politicians across the Europe, according to Deputy Minister's office
sources.
The Deputy Minister held some packed meetings with Wallonian and
Flemish business people.
He held discussions with the EU Sri Lanka Business Council and
European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka which complemented the
interests of the Ministry of Investment Promotion's forward strategy.
He discussed the internationalisation of SME and Missions for Growth
stressing that he would leave no room to obstruct the mission and steps
will be taken to ensure that trade with Europe, Sri Lanka's biggest
trading partner, goes from strength to strength, the sources said.
Deputy Minister Mustapha brought to the attention of European
business community about the moves being taken by the Government to
rebuild the nation, at several rounds of meetings with MEPs across
Europe.
It is clear that Sri Lanka has many friends who want the best for the
country and its people. However the message was clear; more needs to be
done to ensure that the many positive messages are heard loud and clear.
As he left Brussels Mustapha was encouraged by the show of support
and offers of help from MEP's to host trade fora in their own countries
to promote opportunities in Sri Lanka.
