'Spark of Gold' wins Independence Cup
The much fancied “Independence Cup” was won by Anura Delgoda’s horse
“Spark of Gold” ridden by S. Sugantham and trainee by Mathialagan when
the horse racing season got off to a start in Nuwara Eliya on February
15. The weather turned out to fine and five events worked off according
to the program.
The following are the results:
1st Race: (Class V Entrust Health Care Cup) – Winner Royal Oak from
Jayaratne Stud and Agricultural Farms.
2nd Race: (Class 3 and 4 event for “Multi Finance Cup”) winner: Shyam
Sunder owner: I. Dassanayake
3rd Race: (Class 2 event for “Entrust Securities Cup”) winner: “Stome
Ahead” owner: I. Dassanayake
4th Race: (Class 1 event “Independence Cup”) winner: “Spark of Gold”
owner: Anura Delgoda
5th Race: (½ Bred - “Standard Credit Cup” winner: “Re Birth” owner: Mrs.
