International trade exhibition in South

The Southern International Trade Exhibition (SITE 2014) at the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium, Matara, one of the first of its kind to be held in the South, concludes tomorrow.

Organised by CDC Events with the Matara District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event has brought together businessmen, investors, industry leaders, consumers and all stakeholders in the Southern Province.

There are over 150 exhibitors from the financial, construction, food and beverage, packaging, automobile, Information Technology, printing, apparel, agricultural and fisheries sectors.

An investor forum targeting foreign and expatriate investors is also being held on the sidelines of SITE 2014 to project the South as one of the best destinations for investment.

There is a industry specific fora targeting diverse industries in the South with a Port forum to showcase the centrality of Galle and Hambantota as sea ports, and to project Hambantota as the maritime hub of South East Asia. Managing Director, CDC Events, Imran Hassan said that SITE 2014 opens new horizons for the economy in the Southern region.

He said that the vast number of exhibitors at the exhibition has drawn thousands of viewers and participants from the Southern Province and even beyond.

SITE 2014 comes in the wake of massive infrastructure development projects combined with the resurgence in many industries which have been a vibrant part of the Southern economy.

SITE 2014 will revolutionise the mode in which business is conducted in the South and is a platform to explore potential markets with vast potential for growth.

The event also gives exposure to the SME sector in the South and its products and services to the rest of the country and the South Asian region.

SITE 2014 is supported by Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
