The leprosy hospital which is over 300-years-old was built during the
Dutch period. Patients have not been admitted to the hospital after 1983
but there are 43 in-house patients.
The renovation work was completed recently and Lankaputhra
Development Bank Chairman H.S. Dharmasiri, General Manager and CEO
Lasantha Amarasekera, Assistant General Manager, Credit and Operations,
Ranjith Dissanayaka and staff members of the bank visited the hospital
and presented gifts to the inmates. The doctor in charge of the
hospital, Dr Namal Gunasekera was also present.
Chairman of the Bank H.S. Dharmasiri said that the bank would always
support such projects under the CSR program of the bank. "We should
support projects which are not supported by other institutions and the
public," he said.
